General Information on the Aiki O-Kami Society
The Aiki O-Kami Society is the Aikido Club at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Daytona Beach Campus. It is located on the residential campus in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is a university sponsored student organization. Membership is open to students, faculty, staff and family members with a minimum age of 16 required. Associate members from the local community are also welcome to join the club. The club's sole purpose is to further the study and practice of the martial art of Aikido, the Way of Harmony.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome to observe all classes, conducted in old racquetball Court #1. No shoes are allowed on the mat area. Limited seating is available at the end of the mat.
Prospective Members
Prospective members should report early in order to have time to discuss questions with senior students. A Disclaimer of Liability Waiver is required prior to working out. For interested new students, the first class is free of charge. Dues are required for subsequent workouts. Rates are available by the academic semester, calendar month, or daily class.
Visiting Aikidoka
Visiting aikidoka are welcome to workout. Advance notification is suggested to ensure the class will be held the day you are interested in attending. Occasionally classes are cancelled due to other commitments or (usually during the summer) inadequate attendance. A changing area is available at the dojo. Rest Rooms are located nearby in the Student Union, Chapel, and Pool area.
As a U.S.A.F. affiliated dojo, mudansha (those below the rank of black belt) wear white gi's and white belts. Hakama's are only worn by yudansha, those having been awarded the rank of 1st degree black belt or above. For visiting aikidoka, if a colored belt has been awarded, or hakama's are worn by mudansha in your aikido organization, those are respected for participation in our classes. Completion of a Disclaimer of Liability form is required prior to workout. Mat fee for individual workouts is $10.
